Okay Photographers let’s talk extended family sessions!
What is the ideal order to shoot in???
✓First off, in the client survey make sure you understand if anyone has mobility concerns so you can be mindful of making sure everyone is safe and feels comfortable.
✓I always take the big group photo first, pose and shoot away you might need to do a head swap or two but it’s nice to have this finished so people can leave earlier if needed.
✓Then grandparent photos, grandparents with grandchildren, and just grandchildren depending on what the clients have requested.
✓Next, I start breaking up my time into the individual families, if there are families that have really young children, I usually photograph them next to keep them as fresh as possible and realizing that these are usually taken after young chidlren’s bedtime!
✓Work through each of the individual family sub units making sure that you’re mindful of your lighting and timing, be efficient with extended family sessions to get as many images as possible for clients with all the groupings!
Here is a really small sample of an extended family session gallery, there are a lot of images that go into these, but look at the great variety and set ups you can get for these families!
